Dutasteride (INN, USAN, BAN, JAN) (brand name Avodart), manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, is a triple 5'-reductase inhibitor that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Dutasteride is useful for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); Colloquially known as "enlarged prostate".

Side effects
Sexual Effects
This class of drugs increases the rate of erectile dysfunction (with between 5% and 9% development problems after starting their use). This is linked to a lower quality of life and can cause stress in relationships. There is also an association with decreased sexual desire. It has been reported that these adverse sexual side effects can persist even after stopping the drug.
Prostate cancer
The FDA has added a warning to dutasteride about an increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer. While the potential for positive, negative, or neutral changes to the potential risk of developing prostate cancer with dutasteride has not been established, evidence has suggested that it could temporarily reduce the growth and prevalence of benign prostate tumors, but also the early detection of Prostate could mask cancer. The primary area of concern is for patients who may develop prostate cancer while they are Dutaster for benign prostate hyperplasia, which in turn could delay the diagnosis and early treatment of prostate cancer, potentially increasing the risk for these patients developing high-quality prostate cancer.
Contraindications
Children and women who become pregnant or may become pregnant and people with known significant hypersensitivity (e.g. severe skin reactions, angioedema) to dutasteride or finasteride should not take time. Exposure to dutasteride and other 5'-reductase inhibitors during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Because these drugs are easily absorbed through the skin, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not treat them and if they come in with leak capsules, the area should be immediately washed in soapy water. People who use Dutyten should not donate blood and, because of their long half-life, should not donate blood for at least 6 months after stopping treatment.
