Doxycyclin is a tetracycline antibiotic. It fights bacteria in the body.

Doxycyclin is used to treat various bacterial infections such as acne, urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, eye infections, gonorrhea, chlamydia, periodontal disease (gum disease), and others.

Doxycyclin is also used to treat blemishes, bumps, and acne as damage caused by rosacea. It does not refer to the reddened face caused by Rosaceo.

Some forms of doxycycline are used to prevent malaria, treat anthrax, or treat infections caused by mites, ticks, or lice.

Important information

You must not take doxycycline if you are allergic to an antibiotic tetracycline.

Before taking this medicine

You shouldn't take this medication if you are allergic to doxycycline and other tetracycline antibiotics such as demeclocycline, minocycline, tetracycline, or tigecycline.

To make sure that doxycycline is safe for you, tell your doctor if you:

Liver disease;
Kidney disease;
Asthma or sulfite allergies;
History of high blood pressure in the skull;
If you are also taking isotretinoin (Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret); Or
if you are taking the seizure medicine (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin) or thinner than blood (warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven).
If you're using doxycycline to treat gonorrhea, your doctor may check you out to make sure you aren't also having syphilis, another sexually transmitted disease.

Don't use Doxycyclin, if you are pregnant. This can harm an unborn child or cause irreversible discoloration of the tooth at a later age. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.

Doxycyclin can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about the use of the method non-hormonal birth control (e.g. condom, diaphragm, spermicide) to prevent pregnancy when using doxycycline.

Doxycyclin intrudes the Breast milk and can affect the bones and the development of teeth in the foster baby. You shouldn't breastfeed while you are taking this medication.
